U-10 (Boys and Girls)  -  2008 FALL SEASON SCHEDULING LETTER OF EXPLANATION

As previously announced the U-10s will be self-scheduled starting in the fall of 2008.  The self scheduling system will allow each team maximum scheduling flexibility.  Each team can more effectively choose open dates and customize its schedule to fit individual needs.

Mandatory Scheduling Meeting for U-10 Teams

There will be a scheduling meeting on Sunday afternoon August 10th  at 2:00 at the Multi-Purpose room of Pittsboro Elementary.  (Driving Instructions at : http://www.chathamsoccerleague.org/directions.php?Field=2  )
At this meeting, schedules will be finalized for the fall season.  Representatives from each team should be there to talk with other teams to complete their schedules.  Completed schedules will be approved or returned for modification by MSSL at that time.  Your representative(s) must have complete authority to commit the team to a schedule and to commit fields (by date and time) for your home games.  By the end of this meeting all schedules will be final.

Official Posting of Schedules and Referees

Your approved schedule will be posted on the MSSL website and referee assignors will be notified to assign referees.  Any subsequent changes to the schedule will be per posted (website) MSSL policies.

Pre-Scheduling

You may begin scheduling as soon as you receive the league assignments.  You may schedule by calling or emailing other teams in your division and arranging games.  Final scheduling and approval will take place at the meeting on the 10th.  However, if you arrive with essentially all work done, the meeting will go faster.  And, the sooner you call and plan, the more likely you will be to get a better schedule than if you wait until the meeting to begin the process.

Lots of games!

In addition to your required Basic Schedule (8 games minimum with 4 home games), you may schedule as many additional games as you desire.  Teams of this age traditionally can play two games per day (U-10s bounce back fast!)  The NCYSA wants a minimum of 90 minutes scheduled between games.  You can arrange two games per day to meet any of your scheduling obligations, or use this feature to have “mini tournaments” at a common site.  Skills, confidence (and playing time) increase when you are playing more games per season.

Fields Too

Remember that to schedule a game you must also commit to a field and a time.  If you have other teams from your local association also scheduling games on the same field, be sure to coordinate with that team!

Sample Schedules

You may choose to spread your Basic Schedule commitments out over 8 weeks and fill in additional games with two games per day and more games on the 9th week and yet a few more games on Saturdays.

Or, you may choose to satisfy your Basic Schedule requirements by scheduling two games on two days for your home games which when combined with 4 away dates completes your schedule in 6 weeks leaving three weeks left over.  You might be able to schedule “neutral field” games for second games on your away dates, and pick up some more games on Saturdays.

Especially in the triangle area, and with 90 minutes between games, you could schedule your Basic Schedule away games (or other additional games) at two different sites. With this feature you could complete your Basic Schedule in 5 (or possibly even 4) weeks with the remaining weeks for additional games or tournaments .

MSSL RULES FOR SELF-SCHEDULING

U-10 Boys Self-Scheduling Rules

     1. Required Basic Schedule.  You must schedule a home and an away game for each of the other teams in your assigned conference.  Each game scheduled must show an opponent, date, time, and a playing field.   No “neutral fields” are allowed for the Basic Schedule.

     2.  Playing Dates and Times.  Sunday afternoons are the Primary Playing Dates for the MSSL.  In the fall season there are typically 9 playing dates from early September through early November and in the spring season there are 10 playing dates from mid February through April.  There Primary Playing Dates (Sundays) must be made available for League Scheduling until your full required Basic Schedule is satisfied.  If you have met the requirements of the Basic Schedule then other dates may be  dropped at your discretion.  Standard playing times on Sunday afternoons are 1:00, 2:30, and 4:00.

Other playing dates and times (Saturdays or weekdays) may be added to meet the demands of your desired  schedule assuming that there is mutual agreement with your opponent.

     3. Additional Scheduled Games.  In addition to meeting the requirements of your Basic Schedule, you may  schedule as many additional games as you desire with any team in or out of your assigned conference.  All opponents must be NCYSA registered teams.

     4. Multiple Same-Day Games.  You may schedule more than one game per day so long as there is a minimum of 90 minutes scheduled between the games per NCYSA requirement.

     5. Approval of Schedule.  Your schedule must be approved by the MSSL at the conclusion of the mandatory scheduling meeting.  Schedules not meeting minimum requirements (including a balance of home and away  games) may be required to be modified before the meeting is adjourned.

U-10 Girls Self-Scheduling Rules

     1. Required Basic Schedule.  You must schedule a game with each of the other teams registered to play in the  MSSL for the season.  This will be your Basic Schedule.  Half of these games should be home and half away.

     3. Home and Away Schedule Requirements.  When a home-and-away format for the Basic Schedule can not work, in order to assure that distant teams get some home games, MSSL may require travel to a specific location.  If such a requirement is imposed, effort will be made in the following season to balance that requirement by not requiring the same away location for a specific team on the Basic Schedule.  (Such imposition of away travel may be avoided by scheduling a distant game at your own convenience.)

     4. Additional Scheduled Games.  In addition to meeting the requirements of your Basic Schedule, you may  schedule as many additional games as you desire with any team in or out of the MSSL.  All  opponents must be NCYSA registered teams.  You may play teams multiple times if you wish.

     5. Multiple Same-Day Games.  You may schedule more than one game per day so long as there is a minimum of 90 minutes scheduled between the games per NCYSA requirement.

     6. Approval of Schedule.  Your schedule must be approved by the MSSL at the conclusion of the mandatory scheduling meeting.  Schedules not meeting minimum requirements of the Basic Schedule (including a balance of home and away  games) may be required to be modified before the meeting is adjourned.
