RULES FOR MSSL SMALL-SIDED PLAY
U-10 Summary
The rules for U-10 (6v6) Small-Sided Soccer games in the MSSL are the same as normal FIFA Laws as standard modified for youth soccer with only a few exceptions which are:
A. Keeper service from the defensive penalty area may not go in the air directly into the other penalty area. The restart is an indirect free kick from the at the center spot.
B. Distance for defensive team players from free kicks, from corner kicks, or from penalty kicks shall be 8 yards.
C. Offside will not
be called in U-10 (6v6) games.
Detailed Rules: U10 [U11, U12]
1. Field and goals. (See MSSL Policy 3 for exact sizes.)
2. Ball: Size 4.
3. 6 on the field including the keeper. 5 minumum to play.
[ 8 on field and 6 minimum for U-11 and U-12.]
4. Standard Uniform and Equipment. (See MSSL Policy 4.)
5. Referee per FIFA. All rule infringements should be briefly explained to the offending player.
6. Assistant Referees. Not required for MSSL U-10 (6v6) matches, although allowed if agreed to.
[Full crew for U-11 and up.]
7. 25-minute halves.
[30 minutes for U-11 and U-12])
8. Starts and Re-Starts per FIFA with 8 yard distance by defending players. Keepers service may not go directly into opposition penalty area.
[Normal keeper service for U11 and up.]
9. Ball in and out of play per FIFA.
10. Scoring per FIFA / USYSA.
11. Offside. Definitions per FIFA.
No offside to be called in U-10 (6v6) games per NCYSA ruling.
[Starting at U-11 and up, the MSSL expects that offside will fully conform to FIFA in all respects.]
12. Fouls and Misconduct per FIFA.
13. Free kicks per FIFA except that 8 yards distance needed for deffensive players.
14. Penalty kicks per FIFA except at 10 yards.
15. Throw-In per FIFA.
16. Goal Kick per FIFA.
17. Corner Kick per
FIFA except 8 yards for defensive players.
